Life had hit a high point as of late. Yarrow was well into the prime of his life, ramping up and training to participate in the coming rut. His grandfather had just celebrated his 38th - 38th! - birthday not too long ago. The old stag was starting to show his age, though had not let his crowning glory of Glenmore's oldest stag slow him down. Yarrow often watched the old stag and his sire take long walks with each other, likely talking of Adalbert's impending inheritance once Gerald passed. The strapping Lord paid little heed to their whispered talks. He was far from becoming the head of their family, so it didn't concern him.

Or so he thought.

The handsome dark lord was sparring with another lord when the terrible news was discovered. He had to prepare if he was to garner any respectable does for his harem - after all, it was Yarrow's duty as second in line to produce another heir. Drenched with sweat, Yarrow's focus was solely on Lord Kian as they danced around each other, locking racks on occasion. It was only when his butler, a stag named Samuel, raced into the edge of Yarrow's vision, did Yarrow falter. With a grunt, the dark lord threw the other stag free of his rack to turn to his butler. "Sam, you know I don't like being disturbed when -"

"Yes, I know, my lord, but - but it's your grandfather."

The butler's stammering words cut through Yarrow like a blade made of ice, quelling his ire of being interrupted. For the first time, the lord actually looked at his butler. The smaller stag was harried, nervous, and overall appeared to be worried. Yarrow's ears flicked back as his nostrils flared. "What of him, Sam? Has he...?" he spoke, but the rest of his words would not come. Instead, they choked the stag from vocalizing his worst fears.

However, that wasn't the worst of it, judging by the way his butler's face further crumpled. If it was even possible, the already meek butler made himself look even smaller as he dropped his head, ready to shrink away from Yarrow's impending reaction. "Yes, my lord...But that's not all. Your lord father as well. They died together, peacefully in their sleep."

Yarrow's heart plummeted. At first he didn't want to believe it, but the look on Samuel's face told him it was no joke made up on his grandfather's behalf. The butler's expression told him that this was very, very real. Within moments Yarrow's whole life had been upended and completely altered; he was not nearly ready enough to be the head of their family! Let alone be the Lord of Families! He hadn't finished his training! By Oganach, what was he going to do?! As his mind raced with everything that had suddenly become his by birthright, Lord Kian quietly slipped away to give the dark stag some privacy. "My lord?" Samuel's meek voice brought Yarrow back to the situation at hand.

The dark stag shook his head in a desperate bid to clear his mind. With a heavy sigh, he turned to the butler. "Take me to them, Sam. There is much that must be done, but first...I need to make sure they are properly cared for." The butler bobbed his head in silent acceptance, turning to lead Yarrow to their bodies. The dark stag sucked in a deep breath, drawing himself up as he did so.

Now was not the time to mourn, for Lord Yarrow had work to do.

Poor Yarrow doesn't know how to process his feelings! Both his grandsire and sire have died, leaving the stag as the head of his family AND Lord of families in one swoop.

Keep your eyes peeled for a Mass RP from femalefred and I for the mourning of Lords Gerald and Adalbert, as well as Yarrow's formal inauguration as Lord of Families!
