He is the "keeper" of the birds on the small island he lives on with Ondrei that is called Hunakai Island. He rarely travels off his little island. He is also never seen without a small menagrie of colorful birds.

Personality: Proud, Curious, Vivacious, Reclusive, Patient, Care-free. He loves to learn about anything new, so his curiosity knows no bounds.
Brief History: Akea was the result of a forbidden love - between a commodore and a mare of the island his ship beached itself on. His father, Alonzo, was captivated by the beauty of Akea's mother, Lani. While he and his crew toiled by day to free their ship, Lani would watch them; and then by night Lani and Alonzo would meet. Eventually the meetings would grow into something much more, and from there, Akea would be conceived.

The very night Lani told Alonzo that she was carrying his child, one of Alonzo's crew mates found the couple and heard of their news. Knowing that Alonzo would leave his crew to stay with the mother of his child, the other stallion did what he thought was rational - he would kill the mother, so Alonzo had no choice but to return to his crew. His plan backfired; Alonzo took what was meant to be the stallion's death blow for Lani, telling her to run and to keep herself and their child safe. Heeding his words, she ran into the tropical forest of the island, to the very spot where she and Alonzo would meet. Alonzo's ship and crew would leave, none of them knowing the truth of their commodore's death, leaving a grief stricken mare behind. To soothe her pain, she turned to the island's birds - birds of every shape and color who's songs soothed her pained heart, and called herself the "keeper" of the birds of the island.

Months passed, and Akea was born - but remained unnamed until he could speak. Lani merely called him "son" until she saw his curious nature take shape, and bestowed the name Akeakamai upon him. As he grew, he would seek to learn everything he could - staying true to his name - until his mother's broken heart finally gave out and she passed. The emerald stallion then took it upon himself to be the "keeper" of the island birds, just like his mother had been.

Even more time passed, and as he aged, he eventually fell into a friendship with a young mare almost 10 years his junior. Bearing an island name like himself, Keahilani, the fire goddess would indulge his never ending curiousity while he provided a safe haven for her from her father, a god from the North. It was he that she would admit to of her attraction for other's of the same sex, and told him of the world outside of his little island. He secretly wished to see everything she told him of; of the snow to the North, and the deserts to the East. However, Akea adamantly refused to leave the island birds, and thus Keahilani left him shortly after. The only company he has now are the very birds he "keeps" and the boats of lost sailors that come to the island.
